Fusing two fashion trends into one

by 2:55 AM
Distilling the influences of both her Arab & Indian lineage, Hakanah Rathi, 20, a recent graduate from Republic Polytechnic fused two styles to produce a clothing line that stands out from the rest.

Preview of some of Linhad's collection

LINHAD’s designs focus on the brightly coloured and cosmopolitan South Indian influences with a touch of modesty and elegance from the Arab culture. She felt that combining the two styles is like squeezing the two ends of a spectrum as they differ greatly from each other, but upon successfully doing so it creates a design that not only retains the essence of two cultures but is fresh and chic which allows it to be worn for different types of occasions.

Bearing in mind that the two cultures are grounded, she thought it would be exciting to create clothing for the modern woman by fusing the two styles especially when you are trying preserve and modernised the traditional outfits of two country's indigenous communities.
What led her to this start-up was her curiosity since young on why during Hari Raya everyone dons the same type of outfits and dresses when they have many other options to choose from. She felt that Hari Raya fashion trends can be further explored and expanded rather than restricting yourself to just one style.

Confidently strutting in their Shanaya Set.

Despite the stiff competition in the fashion industry, she set aside her skepticism as she believes that clothing styles are now becoming too general and similar to each other which makes a great opportunity for independent designers to show off their works and style which could garner the attention of citizens who have a strong sense of individualism.

After positive feedback from friends and family alike, she released her first collection which is filled with various styles and fabric which includes the Kaftan, Shanaya and more that have traditional appeal with modern vibes to each piece.

Do keep a look out for the next collection this upcoming November!

by 7:49 AM
With the Café scene hyping up in Singapore, it has become a norm
for the average Singaporean to patronise these places, but what if by some chance, good
coffee comes to you instead?

Mr Izzat Yazid, 26, always thought that
during events, more could be done for the drinks and service given to guests.
The former barista then started his own company named “Kaki Kopi Geng”,
a mobile coffee service company.

The ecstatic Mr Izzat Yazid at the soft launch of Kaki Kopi Geng

Using only halal coffee beans & ingredients imported from Malaysia, he aims to ensure that even the Muslim guests can have a taste of good coffee and cupcakes without having the need to worry whether it is halal or not. He then told us that he wishes not only to tap into the coffee lovers community but also the Muslim one as well.

Describing his coffee as, “historical and fruity”, Mr Izzat told us more about what his menu has to offer. Aside from the usual coffee and cupcakes, they also serve iced honey water and seasonal mocktails which he believes is the unique selling point of his company.
